HAPPY TAILS

Are you living happily ever after with an animal adopted from CARAC? Please let us know! Email your picture and story to info@companionanimal.org.
Hi Amy,

The boys, now Milo (Oscar) and Scruff (Felix) are doing well.

Scruff graduated from the dog class, basic obedience, that he attended
and despite his JRT appearance he is actually a bit of a couch potato!
He loves sitting or laying on or next to you watching tv. When he is
excited though he gets a little hyper and hops up and down like a yoyo!

Milo attended "shy and reactive" class because he transforms into Superbark
when he sees other dogs. He is actually the likely candidate for agility or flyball.
He is the fastest little guy! Even when his hair is long the wind resistance
doesn't slow him down. His favorite thing in world is to go for walks and now
that the weather is above freezing we get to go out for them more often.

They have adjusted pretty well to the new surroundings and are a little less
dependent on each other.

We have attached a few pictures and appreciate your following up on the boys.

Thank you for helping all of the animals,
Amy
Dear Companion Animal,

Papi (formerly Dugan) is a 1.5 year old 6-toed polydactyl Russian Blue we adopted on January 2, 2008.  He is the most social, adventurous (but never naughty), and playful cat we've ever met.  He has oodles of fun with his crinkle tunnel, ANY toy with a feather, and the laser pointer.  He (8 lbs) and our Great Dane Boris (153 lbs) were best friends until Boris unexpectedly crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Feb 16th.  Papi, who never "talked" much, missed Boris so much that he stalked the house calling out for his friend.  When he couldn't find him, he decided to keep Boris' bed warm (see attached photo).

Through our sadness, I am happy to report that a new canine buddy, Hurley, a Great Dane/American Staffordshire Terrier mix is helping to fill the void in both Papi's and our hearts.  Like Papi and Boris were, he and Hurley are also great friends.  Both of our boys are rescues and are living proof of the unbreakable animal spirit--no behavior problems, just love, love, and more love!

I'd like you to know what an absolute joy Papi is and how we cannot fathom how he didn't have a family who cared enough to claim him at MADACC.  Well, their loss!  He's a non-dominant yet confident cat who wins over all our guests with his great attitude and crazy-huge "mitten hands."

Thank you for saving Papi so he could enrich our lives,
Natalie and Jason
Just a little note to say Emmett is adjusting very well into our life.  He's such a happy dog and we adore him so much!  The girls each take turns walking him every day and he loves to chase (and be chased) by Rae, our cat.

Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt him!

Dear Friends at the Companion Center,
They have been with us now for more than 18 months and Cleo and Jewel have become our babies.  We still speak of you often to our acquaintances and request support for your center.  Without you rescuing these 2 beautiful cats our lives would not have been enriched with their presence.  Cleo is a loving, quiet, refined, Siamese cat though she does love to play with stuffed mousies, the blue one is her favorite.  It took Jewel the longest to warm up to us but she has become a loving cat who loves to be petted.  She is a talker and will demand that you pet her.  She is the most playful, energetic cat we have ever owned.  Neither has destroyed or damaged anything in the house nor scratched us with their claws.  That is how gentle they are.  We have one friend who told us that if re-incarnation were real she would want to return as our cat.  In a health note, they go to the vet every year and they are in very good health.  Their fur is like sable and the vet notes that they are definitely sheltered.
We thought you would enjoy this update as we know how much you care about all the animals in your care.  Happy New Year to all of you and thank you for all of your wonderful work.                                                                                                                       George and Colleen
Hi everyone at CARAC, hope you are all well.  Sorry we haven't had a chance to visit yet.  Everything is great here - we ADORE Nigel & Joon!  They are very important members of our family now, and we couldn't imagine our lives without them.

Here are a couple pictures I finally got around to scanning in; thought you'd enjoy.  We'll come visit sometime really soon!

Thanks, and Have a Great Day!
Andrea
I am writing to tell you my happy tail adopting Mia (formerly known as Gretchen) . I first thought of
adopting another cat when the cat that I currently had started acting out and being naughty because the vet
said he was bored and lonely ( I guess I just was not enough for the old man anymore..lol) so on a lark I
stopped by the adoption center at Southridge several times to see if anyone caught my eye. I stopped by one
day and was asked if I maybe wanted to see/play with Gretchen this older female cat just kinda chilling out
in her cage, so I said sure although I was interested in the little black kitten next door, so I said what
the heck and took a chance...she was a very cool customer...played with me until she was stisfied that
I was also a cool customer and then layed down and stared at me as if to say so what are you going to do
now...lol...so here we are Mia, Mikel and Me M&Ms times three and here are some pictures that just go to
show how much Mikel and I adore Mia....
Thanks,
Kalli
Amy and staff,

I thought I would give you a quick update on Mario. He made the trip back to Chicago just fine. He was a really good boy in the car and even purred for me in his carrier with a little head scratching. We were prepared for a big dramatic introductory period considering our other 10 year old male, but it was nothing! We used a baby gate for an hour and it was clear we didn't need it any longer. There's been no growling or hissing or anything too aggressive...

He's as happy and sweet as can be with all the new found space, smells, crevices and toys to get into. He plays with a mouse for hours at a time and is trying to convince Simba to play with him. He's got soooo much energy and talks non-stop! We couldn't have asked for a better kitty though- so easy to fall in love with.  He's adjusted so easily and now has the run of the house...claiming every spot as his own.

I've attached some pictures of him in his new surroundings... king of the bed, master of the scratch pad, and having some fun with his new big brother, Simba.  Feel free to check in on him down the road. I'm sure he misses you guys.

Dear Amy & CARAC -

We want to wish you a happy holiday season and thank you for taking such good care of Noah before he came into our home.  He is happy and a joy to have around.  Thank you for all that you do for these animals!!

Hi Amy.....Wrinkles (Maxine) had a lot of fun yesterday at the open house....she kept up with the "big dogs" very well....and slept good last night..I told your volunteer I would send a few pictures of her to you  so here they are.  In a month or two I will another send you an update.....she has been an incredible little pup....extremely smart and well-mannered and loves other dogs and people.

Please be sure to keep me posted on other events....and thank you for her.

Oh, and I just thought you may be interested to know that I did receive Wrinkles DNA test results yesterday.   I don't know if you have contact with the ones that have her brother and sister, but if so they may want to know.

The test came back that she is about equal Sharpei; Chow Chow and Akita.  There was no primary breed...they said that normally would have to have one parent be purebred....there are no other DNA mixes showing and because there is no dominant they are all considered secondary.

Dear CARAC -

I am so tremendously happy these two have become part of my life. I also have a couple dogs and the 4 of them get along wonderfully. It took a couple months of slow introductions, now I have an 80#shepard/husky mix that thinks shes a cat sometimes in the way they all play together. I have been telling everyone I know about your terrific organization and the good you do. If  they are thinking of adding animals to their family to start with you. Having no experience with having cats as animal companions before I am amazed with how people friendly and loving they are. They often beat my dogs to the door when i arrive home. I also cut their nails every sat. and they are so much better with that than my dogs ever are/where.

Thank you y'all so much,
Brian
It has been more than a month since our family adopted Jesse (she was Jess originally).   She was a 3 month old shepherd mix that we found online.   I wanted to let you know that she is doing great.  She has become a big part of our family.   Our youngest daughter has kind of adopted Jesse as her own.   Our other dog Samantha (a shepherd husky mix) is like a puppy again.  They play and wrestle all the time.  Jesse and I have started puppy school  and she is a great student.   She is very intelligent.  I have included a few pictures for you.   As you will see from the pics, Jesse has made herself right at home.

Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to adopt Jesse.  She is the perfect addition to our family.

Sincerely

Todd and Lisa
Kayla (now Roxy) is doing GREAT!
Thanks,
Jen

Hi Amy!

This is my favorite picture of Rowan for your Happy Tails page. Thank you so much for letting Rowan be a part of my life. She is by far the sweetest and most loving cat I could ever ask for. She sleeps under the covers most of the day, but when she is out and about she purrs nonstop. It makes me happy to know she is so happy.

Thank you so much for all the hard work you and your team do.

With Appreciation,
Heidi
Hey it's Steph with Isaac and Button (now Zoey) again!  I just wanted to tell you too that Zoey is all well, she was a bit sick for a day but did a quick recovery! She is loving her new spoiled life of pink things and toys galore! She also loves her new big brother! Thanks again.

Hello!

Things are going wonderfully!  Her cousins were in town last weekend and she loved that.  We also had a play date on Monday with a friend and her dog.

The only downfall is the crate…she hates it…but she will adjust.  It still breaks my heart every time.  We will start training the first weekend in June at the Milwaukee Kennel Club.  I am looking forward to it.  She needs training so we don’t have to greet every person/dog that we see on every walk.  We have been running and keeping very active with the nice weather, before last night of course.

I do adore her.  She is so sweet and wins all hearts willing to meet her.  I think she knows I am her forever mom…at least I hope so!

I have attached pics.  Enjoy!

Layne
