Dear Amy,
I am sure you weren't as attached to Molly as it seemed to us.  I'm sure you love all of them.  But, I think you had recognized that Molly is a very special dog and we wanted to give you a quick update.
You may recall we got her Tuesday evening - the husky shepherd mix.  Our 14-year old husky is already playing with her and is getting much more exercise and fun out of life as a result.  Molly will help her overcome her loneliness from losing her life companion last fall.  And, oh, what fun Molly is having.  She is already trained to come when we call, will sit on command and even "stay"  for a release before getting the treat Jim puts on the floor in front of her.  She is off lead all the time except about one block of our walk while  we are on the street on the way to the woods and beach accessible from our house.  She is making friends in the neighborhood - has had a chance to play with a Bernease Mountain Dog, a Belgian something that looks like an overgrown Eskimo dog, and a spaniel, in addition to Christy our husky.  We encountered 2 of them at the beach yesterday and one has come to visit more than once.  Molly was not housebroken, but we have had no accidents since Thursday.  My brother and sister in law were here for the weekend, so she got attention from 2 more adults and they could not believe how calm she is.  We have not heard the "talking" she displayed at the kennel since we got her home except the 2 times we had to put her in a kennel here.  She is not a jumper either.  She just needed out of that stressful atmosphere, someone to return herlove and a lot of exercise.  She is going to be a perfect animal.  She is a watch dog without displaying guard dog symptoms.  She sits and watches down our drive when Jim leaves on a bike ride.  She has won our hearts.  You can't save them all, Amy, but you certainly saved one that will change our lives!  Thanks.
Julie

I just wanted to write and tell you all how well Gavin is doing. He loves his brother, Pete and they get along so well. We go for walks and play in the back yard. I got them both some new bones and toys! He is very happy and very content. He enjoys going to Gramma and Grampas' house for special cookies! I have attached a picture of Pete(right) and Gavin(left) as you can see he has a very big smile! And in the other one he is showing all his toy! Pete and I thank you so very much for letting us bring him into our home, lives and hearts!

Hi Linda
Well, the kittens are no longer kittens.......next Sunday they will be one year old!  They have been an absolute delight......thanks to the good start you gave them.

They spend a lot of time together......grooming, playing, sleeping etc.  Fred has unlimited energy.....full of mischief and always looking for something to do.  I have to make sure he is challenged with interesting playthings, so he can use his energy in a positive way.  Ginger is more placid.......she spends a lot of time at the window, watching the bird activity at the feeders.

Both of them like their new jungle gym....the blue circle thing.........and they helped me repot my geranium cuttings.  Ginger loves getting her feet dirty!

Anyway, I thought you would enjoy seeing how well they are doing.  They have brought much joy to my life these past months.

In May of 2007, Drake was seriously burned in housefire.  He sustained burns to his face and all 4 paws.  We agreed to foster Drake until he was well enough for adoption.  He required daily bandage changes to all 4 paws for several weeks.  During this time we fell in love with Drake and his charming personality.  When his recovery was complete we decided to make Drake a permanent part of our family.  Drake is affectionate, gentle and tolerant of his dog brothers!  He "talks" to us all the time and is best friends with his big brother Rubix the cat (our first CARAC adoption in 12/06).  Drake and Rubix have been wonderful additions to our family!

Sailor Jerry has been a great addition to our family. He is a healthy, friendly and outgoing cat that can hold his own with our dogs. Sailor Jerry was so grateful to the volunteers at CARAC for caring for him that he decided to be the webmaster!

Thanks!
Robin, Kevin, and Sailor Jerry

I actually filled out an application for Mia on my 1st day of volunteering for CARAC almost 2 years ago.  I wasn't planning on adopting a 2nd cat, but I just completely fell in love with her!  Everyone always comments on how unique she is.  Mia is a petite little cat with the energy & feistiness of a kitten.  In fact, she gave birth to a litter at CARAC and her nickname is now "Mama Mia".  Mia loves her scratching post and tumbling around with her "sister" cat, but she's never too busy to give you lots and lots of kisses!

Thanks!

It was fall of 2006, we were settled into our new home and it was time to add a member to our family. We knew we were looking for a dog and wanted to rescue one rather than buy one. The internet searches began, that is when we learned of CARAC. We watched the web site for a couple weeks, and boom there he was, Arnold. We placed a call to ask a few questions, it was important that the dog we added to our family got along with our cat. After being told that they were reasonably sure he would, we filled out the application. We were thrilled to get the call that we were approved and Arnold was ours. We learned that Arnold's past owners chose not to reclaim him. We will admit we were wondering what we were in for, well we found out. A dog who is very loving, appreciative and a complete joy to own and yes does get along with cats. In an effort to give back and support an awesome program we decided to volunteer with CARAC. One of our duties with CARAC is fostering. Arnold also has accepted the duty and does a wonderful job at it. He has helped sixteen dogs get a fresh start in life. We often hear from people whether it be about Arnold or one of our fosters how lucky they are to have us. I always say no, we are lucky to have them. We were also lucky to find CARAC, they helped us find the best friend one could ever ask for.

Thanks,
Doug and Carey
Dear CARAC,
I wanted to touch base with you to let you know how thankful we are for our joy, Doolittle (you called her "Kate"). My fiance, Dan and I adopted Doolittle on March 30, 2007. Since the day she became part of our family we have loved her to no end. I'm not lying when I tell you that daily Dan, or I, will say something similar to, "aren't you happy that Doolittle is part of our family, she is just the cutest puppy in the world, I can't imagine our lives without her!" When we adopted Doolittle, she didn't really know how to be a puppy, didn't like to be held too much and was a very mouthy puppy. Well, with a lot of love and work, Doolittle is a wonderful puppy, loves to be with people all the time, cuddles with anyone who will sit down and her mouthy behavior has subsided a great deal. We took time to train her at a local puppy class and dedicated a lot of time to her at home as well. We laugh a lot at the fact that strangers will come up to us and tell us what a cute puppy we have. She is the best dog in the world (I'm not biased at all!) and like I said before, we can't imagine our lives without her in them. Doolittle loves to be around other dogs as well, especially her cousin Bailey, a Golden Retriever, adopted one day after Doolittle by my sister's family. She celebrated her 1st Birthday on December 9th with some presents from her "mom and dad" and her "grandma and grandpa" and even got a couple birthday cards in the mail! She also got her first Christmas present this past weekend. I can't thank CARAC enough for giving us the wonderful gift of Doolittle. She is a joy and we love her so much. Thank you for all the hard work that you do for the animals in Milwaukee, it shows in all the wonderful work that you do. Here are a couple pictures for you of our little Doolittle. I could have sent you a book with all the pictures we have of her, but I thought just a couple would do!

Thank you so much,
Emilee, Dan and Doolittle
Morgan was found wandering cold and alone almost a year ago.  She was rescued and taken to animal control by a good samaritan - one who could not stop thinking about her and later returned to inquire about her.  Told that the overwhelming majority of Pit Bulls that are brought to animal control are unfortunately euthanized, her good samaritan applied to adopt her!  A few weeks AFTER adoption, it was realized that Morgan is deaf but that doesn't stop her moms for loving her any less.  CARAC is forever greatful to Jen and Missy for providing a loving home for Morgan!
Hi there,
This is Jennifer and Courtney, we adopted Austin the Boston on St Patrick's Day.
Austin adjusted to his new surroundings the minute he walked in our front door and has firmly established himself as a member of the family.  He's very hyper and wants lots of attention and we are only happy to oblige.  Our Bulldog Owen seemed a little jealous at the start, but now they are getting along great.  We are very very very happy with Austin and would like to thank you very much for your help in bringing Austin into our home and lives.

Best wishes for the future and good luck.

Many thanks
Jennifer & Courtney
Hello CARAC!
My name is Jessica Reeves. On February 28, 2007 I adopted a male st
bernard/american bulldog mix from you. His name was (and still is),
Gus. We met him at the PetSmart on 76th st. I know some of his
fosters were interested in seeing his progress as he grew older......

He is doing well, doing puppy training, and is honestly the happiest
dog I have ever seen. He is small, (now the vet thinks he might only
get to about 45 lbs). He is about 6 months old now. He is full of
love and happiness.

Thank you so much-
Jess and Gus
Hello

Just thought you'd like an update on Patty, she's doing great!

Attached is a picture!

Thanks,
Joe
Hello - I just wanted to write you to thank you so much for helping me to adopt 2 cats from you in Sept of 2007.  Their names were Patti and Merri and they were born to Coco.  I have kept the name Merri but renamed Patti - her new name is Lilli...I wondered if you could also pass this onto their foster mother as I am sure she loved them very much - who could resist them...they are just wonderful and perfect.  I want her to know that they are doing really well and settled in just fine in my home and we will always be grateful to both CARAC and to the people who took care of them before they were put up for adoption.  I have attached a couple of pictures of them that I took over the last couple of months.

Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to contribute back to your great cause!

Thanks again..
Karen
Hi Robin, Kevin, and Amy:

Here's a long overdue update on the labrador retriever/german shepherd mix dog you knew as Glenn and/or Jack. We have renamed him Gizmo. He is healthy and happy (I think) and a really nice dog. He is very obedient and excellent with my two children and most people in general. He has learned to retrieve a ball and drop it if you tempt him with a treat. When we took him with us trick-or-treating, he was great with everyone he met except a man wearing a Werewolf costume. He is a little overzealous with our cats, too. One cat has learned to stand her ground and hiss and swat at him. He leaves her alone pretty much. The other cat likes to run away and he likes to chase her. She needs to learn to stand her ground, too.

We go to the Runway off-leash dog park frequently (we bought the appropriate permit as well) and Gizmo loves it there. He was just there this morning. Thanks for your work to make that a possibility. Gizmo gets nice and tired after an hour or so chasing the other dogs around the dog park. It's close to our house and convenient.

Thanks to all of you for taking care of him until the time he came into our lives. He obviously learned a lot while in foster with Robin and Kevin. Best wishes to all of you. We will try and send updates in the future.

This picture was taken right around Christmas and remains one of my favorites.  It's truly a boy and his dog kinda picture.  She is growing up, still being a puppy, and as cute as can be.  Thought you'd want an update - she is doing super!

Kay, Gabriel, Spot, and Sally (formerly Olive)
Just wanted to let you know that Boo (formerly Sherman) is doing great.  Still is bit water obsessed (don't think he'll outgrow this but it's A LOT better) while he's not the biggest fan of playing in snow, he was happy with the latest round because he can scratch at the door and pretend that he has to go to the bathroom when in actuality he just wants to go out and snack on snow:)

He got a perfect bill of health at his yearly checkup.  I don't really have any good full body shots of him, but he is very muscular and trim.

Attached are two photos, the hat one and one that we like to call his "Glamour Shots" pose.

Hope all is well!
Ann
Hi,

I adopted Catherine, we now call her Katie, on Jan 17th, 2007.  I took her to the vet for her well check up and they said she was very healthy.  She is the only cat in the house and seems to be very adjusted to her surroundings.  I have attached a photo of her.

Thanks,
Susan

I wanted to thank you for our newest family members-Donny & Aaron.  They are the cutest kittens ever (I'm sure everyone says that).  Wednesday night when we brought them home they were a little timid-they checked everything out very cautiously.  But that didn't last long.  Soon enough they were zipping through the house chasing each other.  By the end of the night they were no longer timid.  They love to be pet and cuddled. I am happy to say they are eating well and are doing a great job using their litter box.  (So far no accidents).  I have attached a few pictures of the boys.

Thanks again,
Don and Lori

I was called to foster a calico cat that was pregnant.  This was a new one for me as I never had kittens born at my home.   About 4 weeks later Coco delivered 8 beautiful kittens.  Unfortunately one did not survive.  The 7 kittens thrived and Coco was such a good mama.  I had the kittens for 12 weeks until they were able to get spayed and neutered.   They all went to loving homes but Coco remained with me.   After about 6 months we decided she was not going to get adopted unless she gets seen at our center so I gave in and took her there.  She was quite miserable and was not very nice to the people caring for her and potential adopters.  She made it clear she wanted to go back to my house!   So Coco chose me and I could not be happier.   She is the sweetest most loving cat and I know this is where she belongs.

Linda Voss

Sly and Sadie are wonderful additions to our family.
Thanks so much!

Hello Amy and everyone at CARAC,

Here are pictures of Jetta. The first picture was her first day here (August 23rd, 2007). She
took ownership of her dog bed as soon as she got in the house. We showed her the crate and her new toys in it. Jetta took out every toy and brought it to her bed. She loves to play with her squeaky football. We play outside a lot. She likes to play fetch with the Jolly Ball. What a
wonderful well behaved animal.

Words can't express the love we all feel for her and how grateful we are to Amy and the Companion Animal Resource and Adoption Center

Thank you,
Patti

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to let you know that Gizmo is doing GREAT!  He is getting along good with my other dogs and gives the best kisses ever!  Here is a picture of him being spoiled at home.  Also, some good news, when I took him in to the vet for a check up and consultation about surgery on his knees, Dr. Pritzl said he thinks we can hold off on any operations for now.  That his luxating patella are very common in Chihuahua's and his don't seem to need immediate attention.  But of course, we will continue to keep a close eye on him and if there are any changes, will pursue treatment.   He gallops around the house like a little pony so he seems to be doing just fine.  Thank you so much for allowing me the honor of adopting this sweet little dog!

Take care,
Chris

Hi Amy,

I thought you might like an update on Mokey (now named Zoe).   She is amazing.  Zoe is walking well on her leash and we walk twice a day, which makes her very happy.  She is also happy with her toys and is good about going in her crate.  She sleeps under our bed at night and is always the last one up in the morning!  We have had no accidents in the house.  We took her for her wellness exam and she just needs one more shot which she will have next week.  She is even well behaved with our grandchildren!

Zoe has a cockapoo friend next door she likes very much and she has “play dates” with him in our yard.  They get along well and they love to chase each other and wrestle. Sometimes we go to his house to play.

Zoe seems so well adjusted and settled in it is hard to imagine what life was like without her.

Zoe has decided my husband is the Alpha dog and jumps on his lap and cleans him forever.

We love her very much and are so happy to have her be part of our family.

Thank you so much,
Cindy
At this holiday season, our family reflects upon the past year and the events that have brought happiness to our lives. Adopting our dog"Riley" from CARAC was certainly one of those events. He came to live with us in April somewhat shy and nervous, especially with men. As the months have gone by, he has become an enthusiastic participant in our lives. Riley has been on many camping trips and sees his role as a guard dog and protector of the campsite. He loves to meet new dogs and people. He enjoys his morning walk and romp in the park. His down time is spent next to my husband's feet in the home office. We look forward to many wonderful years together. Thanks to his foster mom and CARAC for his early care!

Carl and Carol
These are some pictures of our "Sam" that we adopted from you. He has grown
to a gigantic size and is very funny. He loves to play outside and with his sister
Rockey (our golden). He is a good pal to my kids and loves to meet new people
and dogs. He is quite the character!!

Thanks so much!!
Shelley
Just a quick note to say thanks for going the extra mile and helping us adopt Lawson (now Boone) on Friday.

He is a wonderful dog!  We have had absolutely no problems with him (ok, he thinks he deserves to sleep on the couch rather than his bed) but he's adjusting well.

He walks with a wag and he smiled much more yesterday than on Sat. I think he likes it here!

Yesterday we played catch most of the afternoon!

He's learning quickly how to walk without pulling our arms out of the socket- this morning he didn't pull at all!

Thanks again for the extra help getting him,
Sarah
Dear Amy,

I was sorry that I wasn't home when the volunteer called yesterday to inquire about "Lennie." I had been meaning to send a note and the attached to let you know how successful our adoption was.

You may remember that he was a tiny Siamese whirlwind that was rescued in late August. You estimated his age to have been about 4-5 weeks old. He was fostered by an individual who indicated that she would adopt, but after returning him to the shelter in early October, did not follow through with it.

I was lucky enough to spot him online, via Petfinder, and immediately contacted you about him.  Within a few days, I brought him home! He was 10 weeks old and weighed 3 lbs 10 oz.  We renamed him Padishah, which is Turkish or Persian for "Sultan" or ruler.

Thank you, again, hope you enjoy the story.

Peggy
My husband and I adopted McKenzie (then Romy) in January of 2007. She is
such a wonderful girl. She's very outgoing and friendly to everyone she
comes into contact with, she's such a sweetheart. She really has been a
wonderful addition to our family. Thank you to the volunteers of CARAC for
bringing her into our lives!

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Nikki

Romy's boys were fortunate to find a home together - this photo was sent by their family and after seeing it, who could have thought of asking them to part ways???  We're very grateful to their family and all of our adoptive families for opening their home for these fortunate kittens!

UPDATE:
Hi!  The boys are doing fine.  They have each have such unique personalities.  Full of energy too.  Harry (Harrison) and Hemi (Mayhem) tend to like to cause the most mischief.  (we've given them nicknames)  Hemi even learned to open the patio door last summer.  He'd let himself and Harry out, while Rollie would just sit back and watch, staying inside like a good boy.  After we fixed it up to make it harder to open, he eventually clawed his way through the screen.  We now have pet resistant screening on it. : ))

Anyway, they're great and we love them lots.

I started volunteering at CARAC in March of 2006 and just knew that I would be adopting a second dog.  My husband and I were a little worried about finding a good fit for our feisty Jack Russell (who can be rather “discriminating”) but we knew that when the right dog came along, we’d just know.  So, when I got the call from CARAC that Frankie was sent back from her first home due to potty training issues, we agreed to foster her.  I remembered Amy pointing Frankie out to me when she was first at MADACC – she  was a cruelty/neglect case, full of mats and majorly underweight.  I did the transport for Frankie’s spay surgery, so I kind of thought it might be fate that she was back in my life!  At first, Frankie was afraid of almost everything, especially during her walks, but through time, she gained her confidence and began to enjoy life as a very happy dog!  My dad summarizes Frankie perfectly:  “She exudes happiness.”

It was a quite the process (about 8 fun months or so!) to finally get her officially potty trained (Patricia McDonnell’s book  Way to Go was a godsend!)  but we consider ourselves the luckiest family on earth to have Frankie in our pack! She is the perfect companion to her brother, adores her job of lounging on the chaise and looking out the window, and is a rising star at her agility class – she’s quite an outstanding jumper!  She still gets scared of strange noises and people (NOT a fan of men with hats or glasses) but we just redirect her and she is fine.  She adores her groomer, loves the neighborhood dogs, and is totally infatuated with her toys!  At the end of each night, we find her 25 + toys all over the house – throughout the day, she takes them out her crate, one by one, the most hilarious thing!

Everyday when I watch Frankie and her brother cuddle or play or when she falls asleep in my lap, I just can’t believe she’s the same scared little dog I met almost two years ago.  Thanks Amy and CARAC for finding me my best girl!

Sheila
